I Write to Burn Off the Crazy.
The Published Ramblings of a Confused Michiganian |

Today is Friday, and with any luck by Tuesday next week I should be done with my final editing pass of Moonlight Medicine: Inoculation and have it sent out to my publisher. It will be a Christmas miracle and the end of...well a trilogy. I like to think that I've learned a lot from my first set of novels. I've learned that descriptions of people, places, and timelines are difficult to keep track of over three books. I've learned that the longer it takes you to complete a novel, the worse your writing will seem at the beginning of it. And I've learned that you can't get too comfortable with a certain setting or writing style. But, I think that the greatest lesson that I've learned is the lesson of completion. Finish what you start, and preferably in a timely manner. I let MMI linger way too long on my writing desktop, even though it may be the longest book that I ever write. I have to apologize to my readers for this and thank them for their patience. Finally sending off MMI will be my Christmas gift to myself this year. Keep Writing and Edit On.

Go together like...things that don't go together very well. Thus this is a poor excuse for a blog post and I apologize. However, though I'm always advocating putting your writing first, there are things more important. Family and friends, especially around the holidays, mean more. Take time to enjoy life around the holidays and then refocus in the new year. Unless you can balance both writing and holiday bliss, in which case, you're a better person than I. Cheers. Keep Writing and Edit On.
I Write, I Edit, I Write Again. Witness! We're Making Better Words, All of Them, Better Words. I Write to Burn Off the Crazy. A is for Anthology. Anthologies are published collections of poems or other pieces of writing. They normally have a theme like steampunk ghost stories, fairy tales from the Wild West, or zombie love stories, for example. If you find an anthology that has a theme that fits one of your stories or that inspires you to write a story, it can be a great way to narrow your submission process into a niche market. Also, being part of an anthology may put your name next to well known authors who are part of the same anthology. Unfortunately there are also some drawbacks to anthologies, the main one being the editor having many author's to pay for their work. This results in generally lower payment for stories or very meager (if any) royalties. Still anthologies can be an easier way to get your stories published...if they fit the theme. Some anthologies currently open for submissions can be found at: http://writingcareer.com/call-for-anthology-submissions http://www.worldweaverpress.com/submit-anthologies.html http://chappyfiction.com/submissions/ Keep Writing and Edit On.

AuthorMy name is Jen Haeger and I have a degree in Veterinary Medicine as well as a Master's in Forensic Science, so I decided to forget all that and write novels. I used to read quite a bit as a youth, but was not introduced to truly spectacular writing until my husband showed me the works of Jim Butcher, Neil Gaiman, Philip Pullman, and others. We are both enormous dorks and enjoy Science Fiction, Fantasy, Board Games, and RPGs, but also try to get out backpacking every once in a while (much easier to do when we lived in New Zealand). Cheers! Archives
