This year was the 7th year of the Con and another memorable Steampunk, Cyberpunk, Time Traveling, Swashbuckling, Robotic, Koboldic, Red Shirt Promoting, Dungeon Crawling, Monster Killing, Madness Inducing good time it was! Fun was had by all, and there was stiff competition in the costume contest. I flaked a bit and didn't run a game this year, but we had no shortage of excellent GM's. I am already looking forward to next year!
BSCon you say? Haven't heard of that one. Well, likely no. BSCon is a relatively tiny, invite only, close friends and family Con that is put on every year by my husband and his chum who both have birthdays in August. Now don't get me wrong, tiny does not mean unprofessional. There is a website to register for games, and three 4-hour slots with a half-hour for both lunch (subs) and dinner (pizza). Also, in several years past, BSCon has gone international with folks Skyping in from New Zealand to either GM or play in games. Additional activities include a costume contest, miniature painting contest, and after-Con bonfire (to recap the days events in a round-the-fire, story-telling atmosphere). RPG's have ranged from hard core, old school DnD dungeon crawls to My Little Pony "Dungeons are Magic" and nearly everything in between. Systems played have included Dread, Fate, DnD 3, 3.5, & 4, Tephra, Legends of the Five Rings, Exhalted, and Risus, just to name a few. Board games and Warhammer are also no strangers to BSCon, though the LARP wall hasn't yet been breached. AuthorMy name is Jen Haeger and I have a degree in Veterinary Medicine as well as a Master's in Forensic Science, so I decided to forget all that and write novels. I used to read quite a bit as a youth, but was not introduced to truly spectacular writing until my husband showed me the works of Jim Butcher, Neil Gaiman, Philip Pullman, and others. We are both enormous dorks and enjoy Science Fiction, Fantasy, Board Games, and RPGs, but also try to get out backpacking every once in a while (much easier to do when we lived in New Zealand). Cheers! Archives
