I'm going to continue with a few more words of wisdom gleaned from smarter, more experienced writers than I, that I listened to at Legendary Confusion last weekend. One particular bit of advice that stuck with me was a quote from a multi-talented gentleman named Tobias Buckell. He said, "success in writing will bring MORE WRITING." That's right, not fame or wealth or contentment, more writing. Now though it may be true that J.K. Rowling might never have to figuratively put pen to paper ever again, for the rest of us, the main reward for this craft will be more book contracts, more invitations for collaboration, more anthology submission calls, etc. This is where that passion comes in. If you really are passionate about writing, then it becomes its own reward and life will quickly become amazing. However, if you are not writing for the pure joy of writing, you may find yourself disenchanted with your success. Just something to mull over. Happy Monday.

Darn those holidays! Well it's been a few months, but I'm finally back up on the blogging horse after a hectic NaNoWriMo and holidays that delivered a pretty good knockout punch of friends, family, and food. Now it is back to work and getting back on schedule with writing, editing, promoting, exercising, and blogging. But first let me recap the last few months of 2013 and the first few weeks of 2014: NaNoWriMo this year was crazy, but I did manage to get 50,000 words with one day to spare which was a nice...start?...to Moonlight Medicine: Inoculation, the final book in my werewolf meets veterinarian trilogy. Like I said before, December was mainly a blur of friends, family, and food, and sadly little writing, but I was glad to have a chance to visit with everyone especially when the weather was uncooperative. January has started out fairly well with me signing a contract for the second book in that series entitled Moonlight Medicine: Epidemic. I don't yet have a release date, but I'll let you know as soon as I do when the second book is due out! Other excitement came from a fun and productive trip to Legendary Confusion where I was actually on panels in the Science track, but attended mostly writing track panels and met a couple of really cool authors including Ian Tregillis who is also quite brilliant and super nice in addition to being a great science fiction author. Well, like I said, it's back to work for me, so I better stop procrastinating by blogging! |
If you give me your e-mail, I'll send you a monthly newsletter. Or bimonthly...we'll see.

AuthorMy name is Jen Haeger and I have a degree in Veterinary Medicine as well as a Master's in Forensic Science, so I decided to forget all that and write novels. I used to read quite a bit as a youth, but was not introduced to truly spectacular writing until my husband showed me the works of Jim Butcher, Neil Gaiman, Philip Pullman, and others. We are both enormous dorks and enjoy Science Fiction, Fantasy, Board Games, and RPGs, but also try to get out backpacking every once in a while (much easier to do when we lived in New Zealand). Cheers! Archives
