The convention stretches from Wednesday (Aug 3rd) to Sunday (Aug 7th) and Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are booked with juicy writing seminars and workshops from 9am to roughly 5pm for me. Some useful seminars I will attend this year include "Short Fiction: How to Beat the Slush Pile", "Writing Novels: Pitching Your Novel", and "Business of Writing: Elevator Pitches."
Now I realize it's probably a little late to take off work and attend this year, but I would seriously consider budgeting for GenCon next year if you are the type of writer who is interested in improving your craft or becoming more successful at getting your work published.
I promise to share some of the gems I pick up this year, but GenCon is really something you should go experience for yourself. Since I may or may not get a chance to write a post while attending GenCon, see you in a week or two! Cheers!
